Question What is the proper connection for a ESD system, from wrist strap to earth? Also, what is the proper procedure to test the setup? -Anonymous
Answer To properly use a wrist strap, it must be connected snuggly (but comfortably) to the users skin (wrist) and tied to ground via a ground cord that snaps onto the buckle with a break away force of less than 5 lbs but greater than 1 lb and a series resistance of 1 megohm at the wrist strap (buckle snap) and tied to ground. This will ensure the safe operation of the wrist strap for the operator as well as combating against ESD events from the operator.

These constraints can be found in the ESD Association’s standard ESD S1.1.
