Question We have conductive tote boxes with lids on them which are placed on wooden pallets. The temperature nor the humidity is regulated. We are following EIA-625 standard of a minimum protection of 200 volts and above. How safe are our ESD sensitive components within the conductive tote boxes? - Gabriel, St. Charles, IL
Answer If your ESD sensitive components stay within the conductive tote boxes with closed lids and any filler material is anti-static (below +/- 200 volts under tribocharging), then they are complying with EIA-625. It is when you open the conductive tote boxes that needs attention. These storage boxes should only be opened by protected personnel (foot straps and conductive floor or grounded wrist straps and closed grounded smocks and dissipative gloves) at ESDS protected work areas (grounded dissipative table top/mat and removal or control of all charge generators)
