Question One of our departments has a conductive floor that has the readings becoming marginal. I asked how they clean their floor and the answer was a mild detergent. They do not apply any treatment. My question - do you have a treatment product for conductive floors? - Anonymous, Kantana, Ontario, Canada
Answer A mild detergent may leave an insulative residue behind and cause the conductive floor to achieve marginal electrical readings. There are commercially available floor treatments for conductive floors that will not leave insulative residues behind. Depending on what makes your floor conductive, damp mopping with plain water may be sufficient. If you are using an ESD floor finish, you'll need to use either an ESD cleaner or a dilution of the actual floor finish with water so as not to over hydrate the surfactants.
